Optimizing your social media profiles for search.

In order to give your social media profiles maximum accessibility, it’s important to optimize them for search, both on the social platform itself and on Google. However on each social platform how you do this for maximum success differs, this is what we are going to talk you through in today’s blog post.

When your Facebook page appears on google, the search result will include your Page name, short description, number of likes and number of people talking about your page. If your page has keywords in the page title, your page is more likely to rank higher in a google search. As an example we are going to use our client 4the city, a Leicester Networking event. If their Facebook page name was just ‘4theCity’ their page would not come up in a google search for ‘networking Leicester on Facebook’ however when the page name is changed to ‘4theCity Networking Leicester’ their google search rank is much higher.

On the Other hand Facebook search works differently. When you search a general thing such as ‘networking’ pages using networking as a subcategory will come up, with the pain pages for that subcategory coming first. Or a general Facebook search will use the keyword searched to show people, groups, apps, events, groups, places, pages and photos. In places your page shows higher in places if you are in a close proximity to the person searching.

A sum up of your Facebook Page: Make sure your keywords are both in your page name and in your page’s subcategory, so your page ranks high both on Google and on Facebook search.

Twitter.

In a Google search result your twitter profile comes up as your profile name, username, the number of followers, photo’s, video’s, and tweet’s. In a google search your profile is more likely to rank higher if there are keywords in your name or username.

However in a twitter search, your profile is more likely to appear if it is related to the keyword searched, to do this the key word does not necessarily have to appear in your name, bio or username, but doing this may also help. It is also important to use the keyword in your tweet as this will appear if someone searches for something in particular.

A sum up of your Twitter profile: To appear higher on a google search use keywords in your name, username and bio. On a twitter search the keyword only has to be textually relevant to your profile, though keywords in the name username and bio may help boost you up the search results.

Linkedin.

To maximise your search ranking on google you should be using the keywords of your business or professional self in your description or name as this will optimise your search for when people are looking for certain job titles or businesses. For example the profile below has the type of sectors she covers in the description below her name which is ideal for searches as this will rank higher than if it was just her name and company.

A sum up of your Linkedin profile: To rank higher in a google search you key words need to be in your name or description.

Pinterest.

The best way to optimise you Pinterest searches are by filling in the descriptions on your boards and also on the individual pins if they are your own images. Putting your boards into categories will also help as this is what people will generally search for. Include key words in your bio too as this will rank your search higher by including exactly what your business does. For example our client sells ladies fashion garments which is included in their bio which will show in a google search as apose to their company name. People often search for the product they are looking for and not necessarily a particular company therefore by using key words in your bio your search will be higher than a similar company that has not used key words in their description.

By putting key words into your Instagram name and bio will help your searches as this is what will show when people search for a particular item or name as google uses your profile name, username and text in description to create a search. Our client has their product in their name as well as in their description which will increase their search ranking as it will come up when people search for sofas.
